Nepal Visa Requirements

Most nationalities can get a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or major land border crossings.

SAARC nationals (India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, Afghanistan) receive free visa.

What to bring

  • 1.Passport — valid for at least 6 months from date of entry
  • 2.Passport photo — one recent photo (some counters have photo machines)
  • 3.Visa fee in cash — USD recommended, EUR/GBP also accepted at some counters
  • 4.Arrival card — available at the airport, fill before joining the visa queue

Practical tips

Visa extension: You can extend your visa at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (Kalikasthan) or Pokhara. Maximum 150 days per calendar year. Extension fee is $3/day.

Land border crossings: Visa on arrival is available at major crossings including Kakarbhitta, Birgunj, Belahiya (Sunauli), Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, and Mahendranagar.

Children under 10: Free tourist visa (must still apply).

Trekking permits: A visa does not include trekking permits. TIMS card and/or national park entry permits are separate and required for most trekking routes.
