Pokhara is Nepal's second-largest city and the undisputed adventure capital of the country. Set on the shores of Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range as a dramatic backdrop, the city offers an irresistible combination of natural beauty and adrenaline activities.
Lakeside (the tourist district) stretches along the eastern shore of Phewa Lake, lined with hotels, restaurants, and shops. Rowing a boat on the lake with Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain reflected in the water is one of Nepal's most iconic experiences. The lakeside Barahi Temple sits on a small island.
Pokhara is Nepal's paragliding hub — tandem flights from Sarangkot offer 30-minute rides soaring over the lake with Himalayan views. Other activities include zip-lining, bungee jumping, ultralight flights, and the World Peace Pagoda hike.
The city is also the starting and ending point for the Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Base Camp trek, and Poon Hill trek. The International Mountain Museum provides excellent context on Nepal's mountaineering history.
