The Langtang Valley trek is the nearest major Himalayan trek to Kathmandu, making it accessible without a domestic flight. The trail follows the Langtang Khola through dense forests of rhododendron, bamboo, and oak before emerging into the wide glacial valley surrounded by peaks over 7,000 meters.

The valley was devastated by the 2015 earthquake when a massive landslide buried the village of Langtang. The community has rebuilt, and the trail is fully operational. A memorial at the old village site is a moving tribute to those lost.

Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) at the head of the valley is the usual destination, with optional day hikes to Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) and Tserko Ri (5,033m) for spectacular panoramic views. The Langtang cheese factory, established with Swiss assistance, produces excellent yak cheese.

The trek can be combined with the Gosaikunda lakes trail (sacred alpine lakes) for a more comprehensive circuit. The region is home to Tamang communities whose culture and hospitality enrich the trek.
